Kristie began working full time in January 2023 which was year 2 of our life on the road. She missed her career so she began researching remote jobs. Previously, she was a special education specialist, a special education administrator, and a middle school administrator. She scored a great remote job teaching middle school special education. We quickly set up a home office for her at the dinette in our travel trailer (The Fox). We researched necessary equipment including hot spots, Starlink, earbuds, head phones, and solar options and ordered what she needed. She worked quickly to ensure she had access to necessary educational platforms and she was off and began remotely teaching. It was a win-win!
Kristie uses a hotspot through Verizon and Starlink. She prefers Starlink as the connectively is the most reliable and consistent although in some areas in the south east, the tree coverage interfered with her connection.
Kristie continues to work full time remotely as we travel across the country. If we are at a campground that does not offer electricity hookups, we will use our inverter or the generator to power Starlink. If we are traveling, she will connect using the hotspot.
The hardest part for Kristie working on the road is the time zone differences. She works with individuals all over the country and she has to stay on top of which zone she currently is in. When we’re moving quickly between zones this makes it crazy for her! Thankfully, the programs she utilizes adjusts based upon her location so she typically does not miss any time sensitive deadlines.
